Dementia Thirteen: Gory terror film set before the operation that changed her life. This is one of the more unique yet strange romantic comedies of our time. The film is kept on target by the quality acting of Mackintosh, who pulls off a difficult role. Cast includes William Campbell, Luana Anders, Bart Patton, Mary Mitchel, and Patrick Magee. (81 minutes, 1963)
Kill or Be Killed: Karate champions lock limbs as ex-Nazi tutor desires reprisal on his Japanese counterpart who bested him in a battle in WW2. This is a cut above the typical martial arts fodder. Cast includes James Ryan, Norman Combes, Charlotte Michelle, and Danie DuPlessis. (90 minutes, 1980)
The Geisha Boy: Jerry, an inept warlock, voyages to Japan with catastrophic repercussions. Imaginative graphic gags; there’s a cute pattern characterizing the Los Angeles Dodgers and, specifically, Gil Hodges. Cast includes Jerry Lewis, Marie McDonald, Sessue Hayakawa, Nobu McCarthy, Suzanne Pleshette, Barton MacLane, and Robert Hirano. (98 minutes, 1958)
Mysterious Lady: An Austrian armed forces officer (Nagel) falls in love with Garbo, clueless that she’s a Russian agent. Another contrived plot made serviceable by Garbo herself. Cast includes Greta Garbo, Conrad Nagel, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Albert Pollet, and Edward Connelly. (96 minutes, 1928)
The Leading Man: British backstage show romance in regards to an American film megastar who seduces a playwright’s desolate spouse and his leading-woman mistress. When it might relatively make up its mind whether it’s a joke drama or a light thriller, it’s still extremely amusing stuff. Bon Jovi is excellent as the brash, amoral Yankee, and Galiena and Newton are fetching as the females snared in his web. Cast includes Jon Bon Jovi, Anna Galiena, Lambert Wilson, Thandie Newton, Barry Humphries, and David Warner. (100 minutes, 1997)
Austin Powers in Goldmember: Austin is back, and this time he faces not only Dr. Evil, but also a new threat in Goldmember. Dr. Evil is traveling through, and Austin is on the chase. He must save his father Nigel from being captured by Dr. Evil.
M: Fascinating, brilliant re-make of the Fritz Lang classic set in L.A., with Wayne as young killer being chased down by a group of mobsters. Cast includes David Wayne, Howard De Silva, Luther Adler, Karen Morley, Joy Cartright, Martin Gabel, and Norman Lloyd. (88 minutes, 1951)
Natural Born Killers: Mary Mallory is a teenager with an abusive father. After falling in love with Mickey, they viciously murder Mary’s parents. Now they are on the run along Rt. 666. As they run, they go on killing sprees, usually leaving one person alive that can recount the events. As time continues they become a media sensation, almost national heroes.
Talladega Nights: The Battle o Ricky Bobby: This is a crazy comedy with NASCAR racing as its platform. Ricky Bobby has become one of the best drivers in NASCAR. When an accident puts him out of action, he loses his nerve for racing. With nothing but racing in his life, Ricky Bobby must find a way to overcome his fear, and return to his championship form.
